Summary

Chinese Megablock Urbanism: An Atlas of Comparative Case Studies in Urbanization Models is an exhibition based on doctoral research, critically examining the phenomenon of Chinese Megablock Urbanism (CMU), a distinctive urban development model characterized by large-scale, dense, and morphologically unique urban blocks. The exhibition presents a comparative morphological analysis of 100 urban cases—50 from mainland China and 50 from outside China—using aerial photographs, analytical maps, and statistical data. Key factors such as block size, shape, density, connectivity, and proximity are analyzed to reveal the unique spatial logic of Chinese megablocks. Findings highlight that Chinese megablocks are larger, less walkable, and often integrate natural landscapes, reflecting specific economic, cultural, and political contexts. The exhibition aims to bridge theory and practice, offering valuable insights for urban planners and designers, and encourages a deeper understanding of urban morphology in shaping sustainable cities.
