Education Corner is a concurrent event of the Business of Design Week. This series of creative workshops aimed at increasing secondary school students' interest and participation in design and creativity. The teams from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design and Hong Kong Design Institute have teamed up to present the workshops. Follow the links below for the workshop details.

POLYU DESIGN  理大設計

o  Workshop A: Cyanotype workshop

In this workshop, participants will use 2 different chemicals and mix then in equal parts and form a photosensitive solution. 

During the workshop, you will learn about photography, alternative photography, printing, and how to apply them into design in practice without digital devices and can be doable at home or school. It can turn your design ideas into a product (gift/ greeting card), and learn about the original idea and meaning of ‘blue Print’ and what is it.

OBJECTIVES:

1. Create a new practical product by learning the tradition skillsets
2. Learning design in practice by photography, alternative photography and design patterns, they can experience the design and creative thinking by this workshop
3. Let students understand the steps and difficulties when they build the product within 1 hour
4. Let the participant to understand the meaning of Blueprint, what is it, what for and how to make it, then they can learn more about the technology and creative thinking before digital era comes
5. Increase the public's interest in visual communication in Design and the idea of visual art

在這個工作坊中，參與者將使用 2 種不同的化學品，形成一種光敏溶液。在工作坊期間，您將了解攝影、另類攝影、印刷，以及如何在沒有數字設備的情況下將它們應用到設計中。 它可以將您的設計理念變成產品並了解“Blue Print”的初衷和含義以及它是什麼。

Waste but not waste 
Reformation craft work from industrial waste to Sustainable crafts harry-on pouch, students could design and handmade their masterpiece with uniqueness and personal style.    

OBJECTIVES:

1. Introduction of Leather and Denim Industry
2. Promote usage of upcycle production waste from Leather and Denim industry
3. Inspire and explore sustainability of crafts and material , last but not least spirit of craftsmanship

廢而不廢

改造皮革與牛仔布製作時產生的廢料，除了基本皮革工藝，同學可以親身設計，親手製作一件獨一無二、可一生使用的皮革牛仔布袋。

目標：

1. 簡介皮革與牛仔布工業在香港的發展
2. 推廣廢料重用
3. 啟發可持續發展的材料、設計與工藝，最重要是工藝堅持的精神

Important Notes 注意事項：

1. Teachers of all participating secondary schools are recommended to remind their students to use all arts or carving tools and equipment carefully, for example, scissors and cutters, or any other sharp objects before the workshop starts. 

參與的學校老師須於工作坊開始前提醒學生小心使用剪刀、美術刀等美工工具及其他銳利材料或物品。

2. The organiser will contact the registrants to confirm their seats upon receipt of their registration. Please make sure all information submitted via the form is valid. Further personal information like physical correspondence address may be requested for the timely delivery workshop materials.
