In line with its commitment to nurturing all-round and professionally competent students, the University has incorporated Work-Integrated Education (WIE) as a mandatory component of the curriculum since 2005. The policy stipulates that all students enrolled on UGC-funded full-time undergraduate degree programmes are required to complete the component in order to be eligible for graduation.

You may offer local, mainland, and international WIE opportunities. For details, please send us an email at career.cps@polyu.edu.hk.

WIE Internship Programmes

  • Students usually take up their internships from June to August for a duration of 8 to 12 weeks. For industrial or clinical placements where students are to acquire professional or technical skills, the duration can be as long as one year.
  • Students also have the flexibility to take up part-time jobs during the semester, depending on their course schedules. The requirements for students' fulfilment of working hours vary among different departments.

Students can take up either a Local WIE, Mainland WIE, or International WIE programme. In 2018, WIE took place in 30 countries and 10 locations in Mainland China.

CPS organises departure briefings to help students get prepared for the departure for WIE journeys. All students who are about to start their Mainland WIE or International WIE internship will be invited to attend the briefings. Topics include:

  • preparation for travel;
  • outbound travel tips and advice;
  • cultural differences; and
  • WIE kick-off ceremony.

Other Types of Internships

The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience (IAESTE) is a non-profit organisation that provides non-local internship opportunities with technical degrees on a reciprocal basis.

If there are no internship vacancies in your company or you do not need extra human resources, still you may consider allowing interns to take on special projects that can bring benefits and value to your business or operation.
