Biography

Dr Richard Xu received his PhD in public health from The Chinese University of Hong Kong; MPhil in health policy, economics and management from The University of Hong Kong; and Master of Health Administration and Bachelor of Medicine from universities in mainland China. Before joining RS of PolyU, Dr Xu was a postdoctoral research fellow at The Jockey Club School of Public Health and Primary Care, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Trained as a social epidemiologist and psychometrician, Dr Xu’s research interests include measurement of the health-related quality of life using preference-based instruments or condition-specific instruments, development and validation of scales, elicitation of people’s preferences in using or selecting healthcare services, evaluation of the impact of socioeconomic determinants on the well-being of people with rare diseases, and assessment of eHealth literacy. Dr Xu worked as the principal investigator or co-investigator of four research projects and has a number of publications released in international peer-reviewed journals such as Value in Health, Journal of Medical Internet Research and Quality of Life Research.
