王淑美博士曾在医院及诊所担任职业治疗师八年，在治疗精神及生理疾病方面具有丰富的临床经验；亦曾在职业治疗学系担任兼任讲师五年。她在2015年于成功大学健康照护科学研究所取得博士学位，在研读博士期间，她同时拿到国际知名的傅尔布莱特计画奖助金、与台湾科技部研究奖学金，至美国塔夫茨大学职业治疗系担任访问学者。
王博士的研究兴趣是思觉失调症患者的动作复健。她已藉由动作分析技术指出患者的单、双手动作控制模式、并分析任务限制因子对动作表现的效应。接下来预计发展动作训练方案、并检验其在患者动作参数与功能表现上的成效。此研究有助于针对精神疾患提供具有实证基础的职业治疗。
王博士亦有兴趣研究思觉失调症患者的非语言沟通。该族群与帕金森氏症患者有类似的动作症状，在访问研究期间，王博士已辨识出帕金森氏症患者的情绪表达线索，接下来预计应用此经验来分析思觉失调症患者的情绪表达行为，以期能针对患者的人际互动问题提供有效的介入策略。
