PolyU receives two Ministry of Education Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards
Two research projects led by PolyU professors have received prestigious awards from the Ministry of Education (MOE) in recognition of their outstanding scientific research. Prof. Tong Yang, Chair Professor of Mathematical Science in the Department of Applied Mathematics, received a First-Class Award for his work on mathematical models of compressible fluid flow. Prof. Tao Wang, Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, received a Second-Class Award for his long-term study of reactive nitrogen oxides in the atmosphere and their impact on air quality.
PolyU Vice President Christopher Chao thanked the research teams for their dedication, noting their work exemplifies the University’s excellence in research that will continue to inspire future generations. Prof. Yang's project “Mathematical theory of compressible Navier-Stokes equations and related models” has been conducted in collaboration with Prof. Changjiang Zhu and Prof. Huanyao Wen from the South China University of Technology. Prof. Tao Wang’s project “Atmospheric Chemistry of Reactive Nitrogen Oxides and its Impacts on Regional Atmospheric Environment” has been conducted in collaboration with scholars from Shandong University, Nanjing University and the Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences.
The Higher Education Outstanding Scientific Research Output Awards (Science and Technology) were set up by the MOE to recognise outstanding research projects at tertiary institutions nationwide. The award is presented to individuals or units who have made remarkable contributions in science and technology advancement, translational research and talent cultivation.
