PolyU is committed to embracing the opportunities and challenges posed by an ageing society through interdisciplinary research, education, and practice. Thetos Foundation, a strong supporter of organisations that serve the community, has recently pledged a generous donation to establish the Thetos Foundation Endowed Young Scholar position in Social Services, in order to support PolyU’s continuous endeavours in social services research. Dr Ada Fung, Assistant Professor of the Department of Applied Social Sciences, has been appointed as the Endowed Young Scholar.

Hong Kong Solicitor Mr Charles To, Chairman of Thetos Foundation, is glad that PolyU shares the same vision as the Foundation to support a new generation of aspiring young scholars. He is looking forward to witnessing the positive impact that Dr Fung will generate through her research.

Dr Fung is a renowned scholar dedicated to the early detection and prevention of dementia. She feels honoured to be appointed as the Endowed Young Scholar. Currently, she is conducting research on the neural mechanism of loneliness among older people in order to formulate personalised interventions that prevent cognitive implications due to loneliness.

Through the establishment of the Thetos Foundation Endowed Young Scholar position in Social Services, the University looks forward to joining hands with like-minded philanthropists to transform research excellence into societal impact for community development.
