PolyU to launch Cantonese Flipped Classroom and MOOC for learners of the Chinese language
PolyU’s Chinese Language Centre (CLC) is launching two new online learning platforms for students who are eager to master Cantonese – whether for better understanding a significant part of Chinese culture, exploring the emerging global innovation hub of the Greater Bay Area, or simply for ordering and enjoying their favourite dimsum in restaurants.
Leveraging the expertise of the Centre in the teaching and e-learning of Chinese language, CLC is rolling out a “flipped classroom” to complement its on-campus Cantonese programmes, while expanding its course offering to students globally with a first-of-its-kind MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) for Cantonese beginners.
The “flipped classroom” provides multi-media self-learning materials in line with those of PolyU’s existing Cantonese courses. The online platform allows elementary and intermediate levels students to prepare the content of each unit using learning tools such as the Internet and smart phones before they have interactive face-to-face Cantonese lessons in real physical classrooms, thus enhancing their learning effectiveness.
Meanwhile, the Cantonese MOOC is designed in a way that helps learners around the world acquire the language step by step. All lessons will be taught by CLC’s qualified and experienced instructors. At the end of the course, verified certificates will be issued to paid participants who complete the course and pass all assessments. The MOOC will be launched this autumn and registration will begin in August. Please check out the Centre’s website for future updates of the two new learning platforms.
