PolyU launches first-of-its-kind start-up Postdoc programme in Asia to support future “technopreneurs”
In recent years, the Greater Bay Area (GBA) has become one of the fastest developing innovation and technology hubs in the region. For start-ups looking to expand into the GBA, Hong Kong is a strategic platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration and funding that helps them tap into the market.
At PolyU, we always encourage our students to make a difference to society through research and innovation endeavours. To support PhD students who are passionate about transforming their research outcomes into real-world solutions, and are keen on forming their own start-ups in the GBA, PolyU has launched the first-of-its-kind GBA Start-up Postdoc Programme (the Programme) in Asia to help them pursue their ambition as a “technopreneur”.
The Programme welcomes recent PhD graduates globally with outstanding applied research capabilities and a strong vision to commercialise their research outcomes. Up to 20 selected candidates will take part in a 24- or 36-month entrepreneurship development programme and receive an annual remuneration of RMB300,000 for two years. Dual academic and industrial mentorship, entrepreneurship training, a free workspace for one year at PolyU’s InnoHub Hong Kong and Shenzhen, as well as other benefits and support will also be provided during the course of the programme.
Initiated and managed by Institute for Entrepreneurship (IfE), the Programme was pilot launched in 2019 and is a programme under the Greater Bay Area International Institutes for Innovations (GBA I3). Online applications are now open for the 2021 cohort until 16 June 2021.
