摘要

Contrails contribute about 35% of aviation’s global warming impact, but their effects are difficult to quantify due to limited data and complex atmospheric conditions. Leveraging advances in low Earth orbit satellite technology, this project aims to improve contrail detection and source identification through a multi-layer decomposition approach, enhance aircraft performance models for precise emission estimation, and develop a data-driven optimisation model to predict airspace congestion and coordinate real-time traffic, supporting more climate-sensitive and sustainable airspace management.

In this research salon, Prof. NG will present the first annual progress of his project, which aims to design and develop deep learning-based tracking algorithms for recognising aircraft-induced contrails using low Earth orbit satellite imagery in selected regional airspaces.
