About the Tutorial

Q What is this “Online Tutorial on Academic Integrity”? How is it relevant to the subject(s)/discipline(s) I am studying?

A

The Online Tutorial on Academic Integrity is part of the PolyU’s initiative to educate students about academic integrity – a fundamental quality highly valued not only at PolyU but in the academic world as well. Academic integrity is relevant to all subjects in all disciplines as students are expected to uphold this high standard in all of their academic work.

The Tutorial helps you understand what academic integrity is, and why it is important. It also offers you essential information and skills that you will need to succeed in your academic work.

 

Accessing the Tutorial

Q Where is this “Online Tutorial on Academic Integrity”? How to access it?

A

The Online Tutorial on Academic Integrity is delivered in LEARN@PolyU (理學網). To access it, simply:

  1. log in to LEARN@PolyU (理學網) (http://learn.polyu.edu.hk) using your Net ID and password
  2. on the “Courses” tab, click the course link:
  • “PolyU1001 Online Tutorial on Academic Integrity (Compulsory)”, if it is mandatory for you to complete it;  
  • “PolyU1002 Online Tutorial on Academic Integrity (Voluntary)”, if completion for you is voluntary.
Q I see the course link “Online Tutorial on Academic Integrity” in LEARN@PolyU (理學網). Is it mandatory for me to complete it?

A

Check with your subject teacher or department. In general, the Tutorial is mandatory for Year 1 students of all 4-Year Undergraduate and some 2-Year Higher Diploma programmes. Some other subjects or programmes may also make it mandatory for their students.

For students other than the designated subjects or programmes, completion is voluntary.

 

Q When and where can I access it?

A

You can access it anytime, anywhere, outside class.

 

Q I can’t log in to LEARN@PolyU (理學網). What should I do?

A

Sometimes, you may experience problems logging in to LEARN@PolyU (理學網). Try logging in at a later time or using a different browser works most of the time. If it doesn’t, contact ITS Blackboard Support at 2766 5900.

 

Q I missed the deadline for completion. Can I still access the Tutorial and complete it?

A

Yes, you can still access the Tutorial and complete it after the deadline. However, it is up to your subject teacher/department to decide if late completion would be penalised or considered as having fulfilled the requirement.

 

Q Can I still access the Tutorial after the completion deadline?

A

Yes. You can access the Tutorial to refresh your understanding of academic integrity anytime during your study at PolyU.

 

Completion

Q How long does it take to complete the Tutorial?

A

It depends on your own learning pace. On average, it takes approximately 2 hours to complete the Tutorial in one sitting.

 

Q What do I have to do to complete the Tutorial?

A

To complete the Tutorial, you have to:

  1. attempt the Pre-test
  2. study all four modules and complete the exercises
  3. obtain 75% or more in the Post-test
  4. sign the Honour Declaration.
Q How do I know if I have completed the Tutorial successfully?

A

You will receive an eCert upon successful completion. The eCert (in PDF format) will be sent to your Connect email account.

 

Q I completed the Post-test already but I’m told that I haven’t completed the Tutorial. What have I missed?

A

Make sure you have signed the Honour Declaration. Signing the Honour Declaration is part of the Tutorial completion requirement.

 

Q I completed the Tutorial already; I received my eCert. Why am I still getting reminders from my instructor/department, saying that I haven’t completed it yet?

A

Your instructor/department may send out general emails to remind all students of the Tutorial completion; the reminders may not be addressing you individually.

If, indeed, you are still asked to complete the Tutorial when you already did, you can always show your eCert as proof of completion.

 

Deadline

Q I am required to complete the Tutorial. When is the deadline for completion?

A

Check with your subject teacher or Programme Leader. The usual deadline is the end of Week 5 in Semester 1, unless otherwise specified by your subject teacher or Programme Leader.

 

eCert

Q I already signed the Honour Declaration but still haven’t received my eCert. What should I do?

A

Please wait for 24 hours after signing the Honour Declaration. If you still haven’t received it a week after signing the Honour Declaration, contact academic.integrity@polyu.edu.hk.

 

Q What do I do with the eCert?

A

Please save a copy of your eCert. You can use it as a proof of completion when requested.

 

Q I lost my eCert. Can I re-apply for one?

A

Yes. To re-apply for one, simply:

  1. go to the Tutorial
  2. click “eCertificate” on the left hand menu
  3. follow the instructions there to re-apply for an eCert.

 

Folder empty

Q When I go to the modules, it says “Folder empty”. How can I view the modules?

A

You have to do the Pre-test before you can view the module contents.

 

Q When I log in to the Tutorial and go to the Post-test, it says “Folder empty”. How can I access the Post-test?

A

To access the Post-test, you have to:

  1. attempt the Pre-test.
  2. study all four modules and complete the exercises.
  3. click all the “Mark Reviewed” buttons on the last page of the four modules (See the Q&A below also).

You can’t go directly to the Post-test without completing the above 3 steps.  

 

Q I completed all four modules but still can’t see the Post-test. It says “Folder empty”. How can I access the Post-test?

A

Make sure you have clicked the “Mark Reviewed” button on the last page of each module. When clicked, the review status should change to “Reviewed”.

If you have clicked all four “Mark Reviewed” buttons but still can’t access the Post-test, contact academic.integrity@polyu.edu.hk.

 

Honour Declaration

Q I completed the Post-test but still can’t access the Honour Declaration. How can I sign the Honour Declaration?

A

Check that you have obtained 75% or more in the Post-test. To sign the Honour Declaration, you have to get at least 75% (15 out of 20) in the Post-test. Go back to modules and study the parts you do not fully understand then retake the test if you have obtained less than 75%. You can attempt the Post-test multiple times.

 

Mobile device

Q Can I use my mobile device to complete the Tutorial?

A

The Tutoral is not compatible with mobile devices. Please use your desktop computer or laptop to complete it.

 

Post-test

Q When I log in to the Tutorial and go to the Post-test, it says “Folder empty”. How can I access the Post-test?

A

To access the Post-test, you have to:

  1. attempt the Pre-test.
  2. study all four modules and complete the exercises.
