Seminar - Department of Robotics and Mechatronics University of Science and Technology AGH - Current research activities in SHM area by Prof. Tadeusz Uhl

Abstract:

Nowadays the Department has 27 person of permanent staff and 47 Ph D students. Our projects cover area of Mechatronics and Robotics in wide sense.  The projects can be classified into four subjects group; Modeling and simulation group of projects, Diagnostics methods development and application including SHM, Structural dynamics mainly modal analysis, development of mechatronic systems. The last group of projects consist of the following topics; microstructures design including microrobots, different kind of sensors development, robots design and implementation for different applications.  In area of modeling and simulation the projects related to multiscale and multidomain simulation are dominating. Currently we are implementing idea of chemomechanics to mechanical structures design process. In an area of SHM we developed several methods and systems based on electromechanical impedance measurements concept, vibrothermography based method, guided waves based methods, modal filter based method and vision based methods using image correlation technologies.  A very brief overview of educational activities of the Department will be reported.

Biosketch:

Professor Tadeusz Uhl received his MSc at University of Mining and Metallurgy Krakow, Poland (1980), Ph D at University of Mining and Metallurgy Krakow, Poland (1983). Currently, He is a professor at the University of Science and Technology AGH Krakow, Poland. His research area included: Identification of mechanical systems, signal processing, inverse identification problems, monitoring system design, SHM (Structural Heath Monitoring), Mechatronics including control of mechanical devices, heterogeneous simulation, MEMS design and applications. He is the author of over 600 papers and books in listed above areas, Supervisor of 35 defended Ph D thesis, President of Polish Society of Technical Diagnostics, Member of ASME since 1994, member of SEM since 1995, Member of IEEE since 2000, member of Polish Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, member of Committee of Machine Building Polish Academy of Science. He is the organizer of many Conferences and Workshops in area of; identification (Polish School of Modal analysis) organized yearly since 1990, Mechatronics (Polish Workshop of Mechatronic Design) organized yearly since 1998. Chairman of European Workshop of Structural Health Monitoring, Krakow, 2008. He is the member of program committee of many International Conferences (DAMAS, ISMA, EW SHM, International Conferences on Uncertainty in Structural Dynamics, Congress on Technical Diagnostics (chairman 2012), ICEDYN ect.). Project manager of many international projects (founded by European Community)HELISAFE, SYNOPSIS, FLITE (Flight Test Easy), MADUSE, SWANS (MADEA), ESTOMAD, CAME GT, SESS, CHASING, CIDAF and many projects financed by polish government and international industrial organizations.
