Seminar - Reaction Mechanism of Fuel-rich Combustion of Large Hydrocarbons by Dr. Xiaoqing You

This talk will give an overview of our recent progresses made in understanding the reaction mechanism of fuel-rich combustion of large hydrocarbon fuels. Firstly, for improving the accuracy in predicting fuel cracking kinetics, advanced theoretic methods have been adopted to calculate key thermodynamic and kinetic parameters. Secondly, an intelligent, fast, and accurate method has been developed for predicting thermodynamic properties for chain hydrocarbons. Thirdly, a combination of experimental, theoretical, and modeling approaches has been taken to understand the fundamental sooting processes including the chemistry of soot precursors, particle nucleation and mass/size growth.
Dr. Xiaoqing You has been an associate professor at the Center for Combustion Energy and the Department of Thermal Engineering at Tsinghua University since Nov. 2011. Dr. You received her Bachelor and Master degrees from Huazhong University of Science and Technology in 2000 and 2003, respectively, and her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 2008. She had been a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Berkeley from 2008 to 2011. Dr. You received the Bernard Lewis Fellowship Award from the Combustion Institute in 2008, and the Young Thousand Talents Award from the Organization Department of the CPC in 2012. Her current research is focused on reaction kinetics, kinetic modeling of fuel combustion, and mechanism of soot formation.
