Similar to many cosmopolitan cities in the world, the high density buildings and roads in Hong Kong generate great environmental burden. The Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited (NAMI), established in 2006, was designated by the Innovation and Technology Commission of HKSAR Government as a Research and Development Centre for nanotechnology and advanced materials. NAMI has identified opportunities for smart and sustainable building materials in four major focus categories - energy saving materials, waste recycling, maintenance, and noise reduction where NAMI has been endeavoring the corresponding core competences to meet the imminent needs of Hong Kong.
In this seminar we will introduce how NAMI in supporting the construction industries in the areas of advanced materials technologies and the research and collaboration opportunities available to local post-graduates and faculties.
Dr. Ivan Sham is the R&D Director in NAMI overseeing the Construction and Building Materials sector. He received his PhD from the HK University of Science & Technology and MBA from the University of Strathclyde (UK). His research interests include advanced fibre reinforced and nanostructured composites materials, surface modifications and finite element analysis.
