High speed imaging and field measuring technique is more and more used in mechanical testing. It becomes even an indispensible tool for the understanding of a complex sequence of events in an impact test. This talk presents some recent development using this technique and tends to show its importance and benefits in impact testing. (Examples, shock wave in cellular material, perforation of composite plates, combined shear/compression of honeycomb, ligament/bone damage, Niti phase transformation, etc).
Prof Han Zhao is Chair Professor at University Pierre & Marie Curie, Vice chair of LMT Cachan, Head of Division "Mechanics & Materials". He obtained his PhD degree in solid mechanics from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées, France. His research interests lie in Mechanical properties of cellular materials; Compaction of granular materials; Rate sensitivity of materials (TRIP steel, polymer, laminates); Rate sensitivity of SMA, Experimental measurement under impact loading; Impact dynamics of thin-wall structures; Impact resistance of riveted structures; High velocity penetration of sandwich shielding. He has published more than 150-refereed papers in journals & conference proceedings.
