Seminar - Virtual Test Technology and Prediction of Curing Deformation for Composite Materials and Structures by Prof. Zhang Boming

Abstract:
The multiscale life-cycle information and curing deformation prediction for autoclave process based on virtual test technology are two major aspects in design and application of composite materials and structures. Risk management always exits in the progress of design, manufacture and maintenance. Virtual test methods have been widely used by NASA, Alpha Star, Boeing and UTSA in the risk management. A multiscale correlation model based on life-cycle information for composite materials, which relates the design and application will be presented. The prediction methods for curing deformation play important roles on designing and manufacturing composite materials, especially large composite structures. Multi-level prediction model for curing deformation, which has the capability to simulate the co-curing and secondary bonding will be also presented.


Biosketch:
Prof. Zhang Boming received his Ph.D from Harbin Institute of Technology in 1998. After working in Harbin Institute of Technology as Associate Professor and Professor for 21 years, Prof. Zhang joined Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics in 2009. He is now serving as the Head of Department of Polymer and Composite Materials and Associate Director of Center for Advanced Composite Materials of BUAA, and Associate Director of joint Engineering Center between Shanghai Aircraft Manufacturing Company and Composite Structure Manufacturing Technology Center for Civil Aircraft of BUAA. Prof. Zhang is currently the Secretary-General of Chinese Society for Composite Materials and his research interests are mainly in the areas of polymer composite and structure technology, design, manufacture and assessment for aeronautics & astronautics and civil composite materials.
