A team of BEng in Product Analysis and Engineering Design students has recently won the Merit Award at the Jardine Engineering Corporation Outstanding Engineering Project Award (OEPA) 2015.
The PolyU ME Team (LAU Wai-lung, LEUNG Yiu-man and YIP Shuk-ying) was awarded for their project “Design of an environmentally-friendly energy converter”. The project aims at design a product to transfer the wasted energy into useful energy. Thermoelectric module (Peltier modules) is chose in the design to convert the energy by providing temperature difference on two sides of the module. One side of the thermoelectric module will get heat resources from exhaust pipe while the other side is cooling by heat sinks. The electricity produced will be used for mobile charging.
Organized by the Jardine Engineering Corporation (JEC) since 2005, the OEPA is set up to encourage future engineers to embrace changes for improvement and to be innovative in the engineering industry. It is open for full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students of local universities in any engineering disciplines. The project was selected based on vision and sustainability, conceptual design, commercial viability, and presentation skills.
