The project “Intelligent Windmill Field Control Demonstration System” designed and manufactured by six students of PolyU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering has won the First Prize in an annual nation-wide electric automation competition -- “Mitsubishi Electric Automation Cup” which has just been concluded on 5 August 2011 in Tianjin, China.
This year, a total of 57 teams from 31 universities and colleges on the Chinese Mainland participated in the competition and competed for the Mitsubishi Electric Automation Cup. The theme of the competition this year is “Application in new energy resources and energy conservative use”. Contestants are required to design and manufactured the whole product by themselves.
Six students studying BEng in Mechanical Engineering have designed and manufactured a device, namely “The Intelligent Windmill Field Control Demonstration System”, for the competition. Inspired by windmill field, the system is designed to maximize the energy generated by wind turbine with electric automation.
