Outstanding Professional Services Awards 2011

In celebrating its 75th anniversary under the theme of "Innovation and Application for the Future", the University staged the Distinguished Knowledge Transfer Awards Presentation Ceremony at Hotel ICON on 14 June 2012 to honour researchers for their knowledge transfer achievements and to recognize the achievements in consultancy and licensing services in 2011.

A project team consists of colleagues from Department of Mechanical Engineering (Dr Randolph Leung, Project Leader, Prof. Cheng Li & Dr Stephen Ng) and Department of Civil and Structural Engineering (Dr Zhu Songye) has been presented the Merit Award of Multi-departmental Participation Award for their Provision of Consultancy Study on Impact of Construction Induced Vibration on Medical Equipment for Hospital Authority.

The consultancy project is a vibration study to assess the possible vibration impact and propose mitigation measures and monitoring plan in the view that construction induced vibration may affect the operational accuracy of certain items of sensitive medical (laboratory) equipment in the existing building. The scope of the study includes the development of vibration limits for concerned medical equipment, the baseline vibration measurements in existing medical buildings, the evaluation the vibration source strength due to different construction methods, and the development of building structural models for the prediction of construction induced vibration.
