ME Scholar appointed as Chairman of International Delegation on Filtration

Professor Wallace Leung, Chair Professor of Innovative Products & Technologies of Department of Mechanical Engineering has taken as the Chairperson of International Delegation on Filtration (INDEFI). Under the term of four years, Prof. Leung will take charge of matters on INDEFI, e.g. to promote filtration and separation globally, admit new countries to join the INDEFI, as well as leading the American Filtration and Separations Society (AFS) to organize the next World Filtration Congress (WFC) in 2020 in San Diego, CA, USA.

The International Delegation on Filtration has been established since 1974 with presently 12 member countries, including USA, UK, Germany, France, Austria, Nordics, Hungary, Japan, China, Chinese Taipei, Australia, and India. For the past 42 years, the activities involved promoting separation and filtration, and running a world filtration congress every 4 years. It is the largest global event on filtration and separations. In the 12th WFC held in Taipei 11-15, April 2016, 3000 people from all over the world have attended and exhibited in both technical presentations and exhibition, respectively.

“It is my honour to be elected as the Chairperson for the INDEFI from now till April 2020 and also the Chair of the upcoming 13th WFC to be held in San Diego in 2020.” Prof. Leung said. “It is a unique platform to get the academia, industry and government from all over the world to join hands through separation/filtration and allied technologies addressing burning global societal issues that impact our generation as well as future generations, such as air pollution – combating high PM2.5, desperate need of clean water in remote and disaster areas, and green-energy production, etc.”

This is Prof. Leung’s second time to be the INDEFI Chair.  He was the INDEFI Chair from 2000 to 2004 when he organized with AFS the 9th WFC in New Orleans, LA, USA in April 2004. During his first tenure, he has helped China, Germany and the Nordics to become members of the INDEFI.
