PolyU led Hong Kong delegation to visit Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft

Led by PolyU’s Vice President (Research Development) Ir. Prof. Alex Wai and Director of Innovation and Technology Development Prof. Terence Lau, PolyU visited Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft - Europe's largest application-oriented research organization from 22 to 24 May 2019. The delegation was joined by PolyU researchers and also representatives from the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) and Invest HK, and was the first time for Hong Kong to organize a delegation of such scale to visit Fraunhofer.

The delegation had a fruitful discussion with Fraunhofer Headquarters at Munich to discuss Fraunhofer – PolyU collaborations, with its Managing Director of Political and International Affairs Prof. Frank Treppe, Referent for China of the Department of International Business Development Mr. Christoph Mitterer, and other Fraunhofer representatives. Technology exchange meetings were also held at Fraunhofer Institute for Cell Therapy and Immunology (IZI), Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits (IIS), Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology (IGB) and Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA), for both Fraunhofer and Hong Kong delegates to share their latest R&D and to discuss upcoming collaborative initiatives. The exchanges are expected to bring Hong Kong – Germany collaborations in applied research and technology development to the next level.

Representatives from HKSTP include Mr. Gavin Poon, Member of Board of Directors, Mr. George Tee, Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Claudia Xu, Chief Commercial Officer and other colleagues; representatives from Invest HK include Mr. Wing-hin Chung, Head of Investment Promotion and Ms. Lisa Schumy, Senior Manager of Investment Promotion. From PolyU, Prof. Shea-ping Yip, Professor & Head of Department of Health Technology and Informatics, Prof. Mo Yang, Professor of Department of Biomedical Engineering, Dr. Cong Ma, Assistant Professor of Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, Dr. Qian Zhao, Assistant Professor of Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology, Ms. Karen Jiang, Assistant Director of Innovation and Technology Development of PolyU, Ms. Nelly Lam, Manager of Innovation and Technology Development Office.
