InnoHub @ PolyU

 

In order to further develop entrepreneurial culture and community and to offer further support to PolyU supported startups (*1) and PolyU members for their innovations and entrepreneurial venturing, a new creative collaboration and co-working space named “PolyU InnoHub” is going to be launched in March 2017 at the 4/F of the Jockey Club Innovation Tower (JCIT). InnoHub will act as a focal point and platform for community partnership, bringing different stakeholders together for pre-incubation / incubation of ideas, innovations and start-ups, leveraging resources for multi-disciplinary collaborations and co-creation among PolyU members (faculties, students, graduates) and community partners.  

The Institute for Entrepreneurship (IfE) of PolyU is the administrative unit responsible for the operation of InnoHub and the related programmes and activities.

 

Application for Admission to InnoHub Workspace
Application is now opened for PolyU supported startups to apply for hot desks at the co-working area of the InnoHub (V413 and V414). Applicants should read carefully the details stipulated below before completion and submission of application.

 

Aims
To nurture and accelerate growth of PolyU supported startups, student entrepreneurship teams and projects by providing infrastructure and pre-incubation / incubation support

 

Eligible Teams / Startups

  • PolyU Supported Startups (*1) (Priority will be given to PolyU Supported Startups)
  • Joint incubatees under Co-Incubation Programme between PolyU and HKSTP
  • Student Teams awarded with Proof-of-Concept (POC) Fund under the Student Entrepreneurship Proof-of-Concept Scheme (SEPOC) initiated by IfE
  • Teams under the IfE initiated Focused Area Acceleration Programme
  • PolyU entrepreneurship teams currently supported by other qualified programmes (*2)

 

Eligible Principal Applicants

  1. The Principal Applicant should be a PolyU student (full-time or part-time) or alumnus.
  2. The Principal Applicant should be working full time for his / her startup / entrepreneurial project unless he/she is a current full-time student.
  3. The startup / project must be primarily run by the Principal Applicant, with the Principal Applicant playing key owner-operator role.

 

Support & Services for Successful Applicants
Each successful applicant can enjoy the following free services at the InnoHub for a period of 12 months (*3)

  • Work space & locker – a locker and hot desks (subject to the availability of the actual usage)
  • A security access card to the work space at the InnoHub at both PolyU campus and InnoHub Shenzhen located at PolyU Shenzhen Base (*4)
  • Other facilities – free wifi internet connection, printer (*5), open area and pantry equipped with coffee machine, microwave oven, etc.
  • Mentoring / Coaching support – mentoring and coaching support from IfE and mentors / entrepreneurs-in-resident at the InnoHub
  • Free / priority attendances to networking activities with seasoned entrepreneurs, business professionals and potential investors

In addition, successful applicants may access to the equipment and facilities for product prototyping and development at the Industry Centre (IC), subject to further appropriate arrangement with the IC.

 

Admission Criteria
The application will be assessed primarily based on the following criteria and consideration factors:

  1. Stage of Business: the stage at which the applicants’ startups / teams are in.  In general InnoHub will support more early stage startup teams (i.e. startups established for less than 36 months at the time of application)
  2. Alternative Work Spaces: if the startups / teams have other work spaces / office or not
  3. Number of Full-Time Staff: the number of members / staff working full time
  4. Contribution to InnoHub: in the sole opinion of IfE, the applicants will be benefited from residing in the InnoHub

 

Application Procedure

The Principal Applicant shall:

·      Complete an Online Application form;
·      Send a brief Business Plan / Pitching Deck with no more than 5 pages to innohub@polyu.edu.hk
        (*Not required for PolyU supported startups, teams supported under SEPOC and Focused Area Acceleration Programme)

(1) PolyU Supported Startups refer to awardees under the PolyU Micro Fund, HKSTP-PolyU Tech Incubation Fund, PolyU Tech Launchpad Fund, and Good Seed Programmes

(2) Other qualified programmes include (1) Cyberport CCMF Scheme; (2) Cyberport CUPP Programme; (3) HKSTP, Cyberport or HK Design Centre Incubation Programme; (4) SOW Asia i2i Programme; (5) Youth Business Hong Kong Programme and other incubation programmes by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Group (HKFYG).

(3) The hot desks, locker and security access card will be available for a successful applicant for 12 months.  After the 12-month period, unless otherwise approved, the applicant shall move out from the hot desks, clear the locker, return the security access card but he / she and his / her team can continue to use the open / common area of the InnoHub.

(4) In addition to InnoHub at the PolyU campus, a satellite site at PolyU Shenzhen Base – InnoHub @ Shenzhen will also provide co-working space / hot desks on temporary basis

(5) Successful applicants may need to pay for using printing / photocopying service based on their usage.
