Introduction

The success of a construction project depends on various factors. Good strategies in procurement and tendering no doubt play an important role. Procurement and tendering may cover the different parts of the supply chain, including the employer’s procurement, tendering exercise, main contractor’s tendering strategies, procurement of vendors and sub-contractors at the lower end of the supply chain. Disputes, uncertainties and procedures in these different stages of tendering are common area the engineers need to handle. As such, knowledge and skills in handling these issues are essential for a successful engineer.


Course Objectives

Upon completion of this seminar, students will be able to:

  • Know the different kinds of procurement method
  • Learn the whole tendering procedures
  • Grasp knowledge of the technical circulars of the Development Bureau concerning procurement and tendering
  • Know the impact of past performance upon the tendering assessment
  • Become aware of the usual tendering strategies
  • Get a brief knowledge on the contract law regarding acceptance of tender
  • Avoid the loopholes of falling into difficult situations due to misunderstanding of the Conditions of Tender
  • Know the usual problems in Sub-contractors' tendering
  • Learn the usual problems in materials' procurement
