Supported by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the Hong Kong and Greater Bay Area TV forum was successfully organised in Shenzhen by CGTN (China Global Television Network) on 17 November 2020. With a themed focus on the Greater Bay Area's (GBA) internationalisation and integration, 17 distinguished speakers and panelists from Shenzhen, Hong Kong and around the world shared their views on the GBA area at the venue in Shenzhen and online.
During the first session, the academics, researchers, business leaders and representatives from financial institutions in China and around the world explored the development of the Pearl River Delta region, including the role Hong Kong plays regionally and beyond. It also discussed how Hong Kong, as China’s “door to the world”, can leverage its connections and advantages to help China achieve its goal of robust Double Development. The session also analysed solutions to help both businesses and government better understand the method and methodologies for integration that can create connectivity amongst cities in the GBA.
The second session discussed the finance and investment aspects of the GBA area, with a main focus on how Shenzhen and Hong Kong complement each other as tech hubs and financial hubs respectively. Topics ranging from fintech to green finance were explored, while industry experts also discussed Hong Kong’s ongoing unrest from a obstacles and opportunities perspective. The forum concluded that every city in the GBA is facing its own challenges but can make its own contribution by exploiting its localised advantages to help develop the finance and investment industry and make the area better and stronger.
