Mindful Negotiation to Empower & Engage

A Sympathetic Approach Linking Mindfulness to Negotiation Effectiveness

Mindful Negotiation and getting the message across succinctly and powerfully is one of the most influential and empowering skills that senior executives can perform in their environment. The skills of negotiation and persuasion operate at many levels, yet we find that executives in organisations often require high levels of transparency and deep rapport with colleagues or clients to achieve excellence in business activity and development. Being mindful requires the individual to be fully present, having a level of awareness that focuses on what’s happening in the very moment, being alert to all the five human senses and recognising how it is processing information through these senses to affect behaviour and activity.

The awareness of such a mindset means that a deeper understanding of the core intentions and values from both the negotiator and the client can be achieved. This will enable senior executives to have an invaluable insight into their personal congruency, motivation, strategy, and a deeper appreciation of fulfilling an outcome that would mutually satisfy both parties’ objectives.

Successful negotiations especially at a senior level require implicit and explicit communication in order to gain the confidence and trust for both parties to move forward in agreement. The consequences of unclear, incongruent, or unsympathetic approach to negotiations can result in delays in business activity, costs, and even whole scale failures in business relationships.
