The 3rd International Forum on China
Hotel Brand Development


Co-hosted by PolyU and the Jiangsu Provincial Tourism Administration, and co-organised by the SHTM, the Jinling Hotels and Resorts Corporation and the Nanjing Municipal Tourism Bureau, the 3rd International Forum on China Hotel Brand Development was successfully held in Nanjing in Jiangsu Province from 27 to 28 April 2009. Sponsored by the K. Wah Group for the third year, and supported by the China Tourist Hotels Association, the Forum provided an excellent opportunity for industry leaders, academics and government officials to exchange views on the development and management of hotel branding in a rapidly developing market.

The 3rd International Forum on China Hotel Brand Development recorded a total attendance of 500 participants from around the world.

Industry Appreciation Dinner

The SHTM this year held its third Industry Appreciation Dinner, with a combined total of 470 industry partners, final-year students and staff members attending the 17 April event at The Mira. This dinner was designed to thank our industry partners for their generosity in providing scholarships, student placements, Professor-for-a-Day lectures, mentorships and valuable advice throughout the year.

Inauguration of PolyU President

With the official installation of Professor Timothy Tong as its new President on 8 April, PolyU embarks on a new journey to nurture preferred graduates for the community. More than 1,000 guests, including Economics Nobel Laureates Professors Robert Mundell and John Nash, Jr, outstanding alumni, community leaders, and guests from mainland China and overseas, as well as PolyU students and staff members, turned up to the university campus to witness this memorable event. Tourism Commissioner Visits the SHTM

Ms Margaret Fong, Commissioner for Tourism, accompanied by Deputy Commissioners for Tourism Ms Joey Lam and Mr Vincent Fung, visited the SHTM on 30 March. PolyU President Timothy Tong and SHTM Director Professor Kaye Chon led these important visitors on a tour of the School's facilities, including the Samsung Digital Lab for Hospitality Technology and the Che-woo Lui Hotel and Tourism Resource Centre.
