There are several disruptions in global tourism that will change the nature of tourism. These disruptions emerge from nature, technology, politics, economics, sharing economy, society and other sources and will change the nature of tourism and the impacts to communities. The background theme for the 2019 meeting of the Academy will be Disruption in global tourism and optimising benefits for communities. We hope that this will encourage Fellows to consider in their presentations and discussions the ways in which communities will be affected in the future and suitable responses to optimise benefits for communities.
