Philip Pearce

Philip continues to write and publish with all his interests in tourist behaviour and the psychology of tourists. Some academic fellows have received this news already, but he is pleased to let all Fellows know that he has been designated a Distinguished Professor by James Cook University.

He is the first social scientist, and of course tourism person, to be a James Cook Distinguished Professor, now joining the small cohort of marine scientists and biologists with this title from his University. By the numbers, Distinguished Professor has meant 15 books, 280 refereed publications and over 40 PhD people (and counting).

Philip thanks his many students, his co-authors, multiple international colleagues, and his family for their considerable contributions to these efforts.

Philip is also pleased to report that he formed an international research team with Academy secretary Hera Oktadiana and Chinese scholar Rosalie Wang, a visitor to James Cook University, and together they won the Best Paper Award at the CAUTHE 2016 conference for their work on tourists posing in photographs.
