  • A Thank You Note from Larry Dwyer

    Dear Fellows,
As you would know, I have succeeded Pauline Sheldon as Board Chair of the Academy for the duration of the McKercher administration. I would like to give a special acknowledgement to Pauline and her work on behalf of the Academy. Pauline has served two terms as President and two terms as Board Chair. There is no one more committed to the Academy and its aims than Pauline. While Pauline's Presidency was characterised by many initiatives generated from her leadership (e.g. the emerging scholar's program), she continued to provide wise council to my Executive Committee in her subsequent role as Board Chair. I have always benefitted greatly from Pauline's advice and perspectives on every issue affecting the Academy. I wish her the very best for her future involvement in the Academy, as she enjoys her 'retirement from active duty'.

  • A new book series
Co-editors: Pauline Sheldon and Daniel Fesenmaier

Pauline and Daniel are happy to announce that they are co-editors for a new book series entitled Tourism on the Verge to be published by Springer.

This book series discusses innovative and 'edgy' aspects of tourism and hospitality. It will include titles focusing on experiences and events, transportation and mobilities, technology and society, education, culture, eco-systems and the nature and role that tourism and hospitality play within the private and public sectors. It will include volumes that enlighten tourism's position vis-à-vis the rest of society and those that address tourism's capability to transform the economic structure, the environment, as well as the social and cultural fabric of destinations. This series seeks to push the conceptual envelope in these areas, has a strong futures orientation and favors publications that bring a values-based, responsible focus to the content. The series is aimed especially at researchers, doctoral students, and sophisticated practitioners.

If you are interested in contributing to this series, please contact either Dan (drfez@ufl.edu) or Pauline (psheldon@hawaii.edu). The book can be an edited book, an authored book or a monograph.
