The creativity and professional expertise of PolyU students in various disciplines was displayed in various regional and local competitions, reaping harvest of awards and bringing honour to the University.

Department of Health Technology and Informatics
Three radiography students bagged four prizes at the “Taishan Cup” Practice Skills Competition of College Students of the Mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong Majoring in Medical Imaging Technology.

  • Lam Chung-ning, Lau Ka-wai and Kan Ming-yin won Research Presentation - First-Class Award with their paper titled “Investigation of the effect of weight-bearing and non-weight-bearing on intracortical porosity in elderly using high resolution computed radiographic imaging”
  • PolyU won Group - Second-Class Award
  • Lau Ka-wai won Digital Radiography (DR) Examination Technology - Second-Class Award with his excellent practical skills on DR
  • Kan Ming-yin won Computerized Tomography (CT) Examination Technology Third-Class Award with his excellent practical skills on CT

Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
Student Chow Nok-to won two awards with the project titled “Towards new possibilities in home intelligence”, including a Champion at the Manufacturing and Industrial Division Student Project Competition 2014-15 organized by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and a Bronze Award at the 2015 Innovation and Technology Project Competition for Students of Electronic Engineering or Related Engineering Fields organized by the Hong Kong Electronic Industries Association. Supervised by Dr Velvet Chen, the project proposed a universal and effective user control method to enrich the degree of freedom in home intelligence applications.

Department of Mechanical Engineering and Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering
A student project titled “STAR WARS LAND” was named the Champion in the Disney ImagiNations Hong Kong Design Competition 2015 held by the Walt Disney Company - Hong Kong. With the “Star War” movie as the theme, the project conceived how Hong Kong Disneyland will be after 20 years. The winning students were Wong Chun-hei, Yeung Chun-yan, O Yan-yan and Fong Chun-leong.
