Laser Safety Course

 

Topics:

1.   Basic concepts of laser

2.   Laser hazards

3.   Classification of laser equipment

4.   Principles of laser safety

5.   Control measures of the PolyU

 

Course objectives:
The course aims to provide basic safety training for personnel working with or intended to work with laser equipment.

 

Target group(s):
Potential users of high-power (class 3B or 4) laser equipment.

 

Users of high-power laser equipment must have received proper laser safety training before they are authorized by their corresponding departments to operate high‑power laser equipment. Attendees of this course are considered to have fulfilled this requirement.

Briefing for Purchasing Delegates on the Central Chemical Purchasing System – Class A9

 

Topics:

1.         Background of Dangerous Goods Management Team (DGMT)

2.         Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemical (GHS)

3.         Policy of centralized purchase of hazardous chemicals

4.         Procedures of chemical procurement

5.         Use of Dangerous Goods and Chemical Waste Stores Services

6.         FAQ on chemical procurement

     

Course Objectives:

This course aims at introducing the Central Chemical Purchasing System effective since 01 October 2016 for chemical users so that they can purchase hazardous chemicals under a close monitoring of DGMT. Chemical Purchasing Delegates are required to complete this course with satisfactory results in order to complete the registration and obtain eligibility for raising chemical purchase request to DGMT.

 

Target Group(s):
All PolyU staff members who are required to purchase chemicals.

Competence in Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Workstation Assessment

 

Topics:

1.       Legislation and PolyU’s code of practice on DSE

2.       Basic anatomy and physiology

3.       Common health problems amongst DSE users

4.       Prevention of musculoskeletal related problems

5.       Principles of ergonomics

6.       Different types of DSE equipment and their features

7.       Risk assessment of DSE workstations

8.       Stretching Exercises

9.       Videos on stretching exercise and set up of workstations

10.    Practical session on risk assessment

 

Course Objectives:
This course aims at introducing the legal requirement on the safe use of display screen equipment (DSE), basic knowledge on musculoskeletal problems associated with DSE users, use of DSE workstation in an ergonomically manner, and practical methods in carrying out DSE workstation assessment. Personnel who have completed this course are competent in performing risk assessment on DSE workstations.

 

Target Group(s):
All PolyU staff members who are interested in risk assessment associated with the use of display screen equipment and are delegated by their corresponding departments.

Briefing on The Use of First Aid Box and Public Access Defibrillator Program in PolyU

1.     The provisions of first aid box and items

2.     Proper use of the first aid items

3.     Demonstration and Practice

4.     Outline of Public Access Defibrillation Program in PolyU

5.     The provision of automated external defibrillators (AED) on campus

6.     External training and resources for AED

 

Course Objectives:
This briefing aims at introducing the provisions of first aid box in departments, the use of first aid items and the existing campus arrangement of the public access defibrillation program.

 

Target Group(s):
Responsible persons for departmental first aid boxes and any other PolyU staff members who are interested in the use of first aid items and the provision of AEDs on campus.
