The Health, Safety and Environment Office has arranged a basic life support course in October 2012 for PolyU staff with details as follows:




American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider and AHA Basic Life Support Refresher Course




AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certificate valid for 2-years




31 October 2012 (Wednesday), 8:30 am – 1:00 pm




Resuscitation Training Centre of Caritas Medical Centre (CMCRTC),

111 Wing Hong Street, Shamshuipo, Kowloon, Hong Kong.




AHA Experienced Basic Life Support Instructors







The course fees will be borne by HSEO. Staff members may take this as a refresher course for those who have attended the course before and their BLS certificates are due to expire in 2 months. Grateful if you would invite staff member to attend. Seats are limited and lots will be drawn to determine the successful applicants. Unsuccessful applicants will be put on reserve list and have higher priority for next BLS course. However, applicants with confirmed enrolment who fail to turn up should give justification for their absence to HSEO.


Course Contents:





Course Description:


This program is designed to provide BLS knowledge and skills of CPR for victims of all ages, use of Barrier device; e.g. Pocket Mask, Bag-Valve-Mask, use of AED and relief of FBAO to healthcare provider and people who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace


Course Content:


AHA adult chain of survival, signs of heart attack, cardiac arrest, stroke, and choking in adults. The course teaches rescuers skills in Adult, Paed and infant CPR and relief of FBAO.


Course Length:


4.5 hours (8:30 am – 1:00 pm)




Written Examination (20 MCQs)

3 Skills assessment on: Adult CPR, Use of AED & infant CPR




A course completion card from American Heart Association


Course Objectives:


Upon completion of the course, the participant will:


1. Recognize importance of chain of survival

2. Perform Adult, Paed and infant CPR (1 and 2 rescuers)

3. Know how to manage FBAO

4. Ventilation with a barrier device

5. Use of AED

6 participants to 1 instructor



Certificate valid for:


2 years
