Health, Safety and Environment Office will arrange the following 5 safety courses in May & June 2010:
 
Safe Use of Lifting Appliances and Lifting Gears (LALG) – Class A

3 May 2010 (Mon) 
9:00 am – 12:30 pm & 14:00 pm – 17:30 pm

Professional lecturers of OSHC
Topics:  
1.      Related occupational safety and health legislations
2.      Major hazards of lifting operations
3.      The proper selection of lifting appliances and lifting gears
4.      Safe lifting operations
5.      Examinations and Inspections on lifting appliances and lifting gears
6.      Case Studies
7.      Practical session on lifting operations (Venue: W002, Industrial Centre)
Course objectives:
This course aims to introduce to the participants the hazards involving in lifting operations and their respective control measures in order to avoid the occurrence of accident.

Target group(s):
Departmental personnel responsible for LALG operation.
(Please apply on or before 27 April 2010. Priority will be given to those who have already indicated their interest to HSEO via prior e-mail communication.)  

**In order to optimize enrollment and number of participants, the enrolment deadline is the same for both Class A & Class B.  Just enroll either Class A or Class B.
 

 
 
Laser Safety Course

3.      Classification of laser equipment
4.      Principles of laser safety 
5.      Control measures in the PolyU
Course objectives:
The course aims to provide basic safety training for personnel working with or intended to work with laser equipment.

Target group(s):
Potential users of high-power (class 3B or 4) laser equipment. Users of high-power laser equipment must have received proper laser safety training before they are authorized by their corresponding departments to operate high‑power laser equipment.  Attendees of this course are considered to have fulfilled this requirement.

Personnel, who have already attended similar courses or trained in laser safety using HSEO’s web-based self-learning system, are not required to attend this course but they are welcome to take this course as a refresher.

Radiation Safety of Irradiating Apparatus

2.      Basic radiation protection principles.
3.      Radiation monitoring.
4.      Control and protective measures for operating irradiating apparatus, such as X-ray equipment. 
5.      Legal requirements and radiation protection requirements in PolyU. 
Course objectives:
To equip the attendees with basic radiation safety knowledge to meet the pre-requisite for registration as a registered radiation user in PolyU.

Target group(s):
Potential users of closed-beam X-ray equipment Personnel, who have already trained in radiation safety using HSEO’s web-based self‑learning system, are not required to attend this course but they are welcome to take this course as a refresher.
