RISE Youth Leadership Programme

RISE Youth Leadership Programme (RISE) is a 1-semester intensive leadership training offered to UGC-funded undergraduate students (Year 2 or above). Throughout the semester it includes team building orientation and camp, classroom learning, experiential workshops, and a 2-week international study cum service trip.

52 students of 6 different nationalities joined the first cohort of RISE (Sep 2016 – Jan 2017). They completed all cognitive, emotional, and cultural trainings and workshops, and travelled to the Sharing City – Seoul, South Korea, under the theme “sharing economy and social innovation” and visited the well-developed social innovations, cooperatives etc. They also served in both Seoul and Mokpo (southern part of Korea) in partnership with Ewha Womans University and Mokpo National University. The two partnered universities mobilised 30 students in total for the programme.

RISE 2017-18 (2nd Cohort) has kicked start with RISE Camp on 23-24 September 2017 at Noah's Ark. With the theme of Social Innovation, students will go through a series of workshops and trainings, projects and presentations, before their international study and service experience in South Korea.

Programme Structure

  RISE Camp Team-building camp for students of various backgrounds that establishes expectations for the RISE journey of learning and helps students to identify their own leadership abilities, strengths, weaknesses, etc.
  RISE Workshops Talks and local visits in Hong Kong that prepare students for service learning and provision during the two-week international trip
  RISE Serve Group discussion of and preparation for designing a service project; needs assessment

RISE 2017-18 (3rd Cohort) and Application

3rd Cohort RISE Youth Leadership Programme 2017-181 will crossover 3-credit2 APSS2S09 Service Leadership through Serving Children and Families with Special Needs* in Vietnam. RISE 2017-18 (3rd Cohort) will cover lectures on Service Leadership, workshops on cultural competence, liberal studies and international relations, and service project planning during Semester 2; while in May, students will go to Vietnam for local studies and service at Ho Chi Minh City and Ah Giang City in Semester 3.

*APSS2S09 Service Leadership through Serving Children and Families with Special Needs (Semesters 2 and 3, 2017/18) is a 3-credit service-learning subject
1 All sessions are compulsory; a total non-refundable programme fee of HK$2,200 applies
2 Students will need to complete all RISE sessions scheduled in order to obtain the concerned credits
3 Shortlisted candidates will be notified for interview
4 Successful applicants will be pre-registered for APSS2S09 in Semester 2 and 3
