Introduction

The PolyU Sports Scholarship Scheme for RPg Students (PSSS) is for entry-level local and international full-time PhD applicants who have a record of sporting success at national and/or international levels.

Objectives

The main objectives of the PSSS are:

  • to support high-performing sportsmen and women as well as coaches in pursuing full-time PhD studies alongside their training and coaching commitments
  • to nurture academic and sports talents of PhD applicants
  • to provide opportunities for talented sportsmen/women and coaches to bring benefits to the University in their relevant sports areas

Places

There are up to four places on a competitive basis in each academic year.

Eligibility

To be considered for the Scheme, PhD applicants are required to:

  • demonstrate a track record of success in national and international sports performance or coaching (retired sportsmen and women who possess the track record will also be considered)

  • meet the University’s admission requirements for PhD programmes and programme specific requirements (if any)

Scholarship

Successful applicants will receive the PolyU Research Postgraduate Scholarship (PRPgS) with a tuition fee waiver. Outstanding applicants may receive the PolyU Presidential PhD Fellowship (PPPFS). Please refer to the details of the Fellowship/Scholarship schemes here.

A sports travel grant, which will be paid on a reimbursement basis, may be awarded at the discretion of the PSSS Standing Committee to support students to travel for competitive sports events. Well-justified preferential treatment can be offered to students with outstanding sports achievements which may bring benefits to the University.
