Abstract

This talk will discuss how the co-creation of design and technology can serve as a relatively complete innovation strategy for social development. First, it will review the history of social change and civilization progress, and point out the role that design can play as meaning innovation. Following, the speaker will introduce some projects in Taiwan and internationally, including the development of humanistic smart cities, the speculations of future 6G scenarios, the promotion of national courts and campus aesthetics, and the development of urban design power with WDO. Finally, there will be a reflection on the opportunity faced by the second industrial revolution and the age of enlightenment.

 

About the Speaker

Prof. Liou is the Vice President of Research and Development at Taiwan Design Research Institute (TDRI), and also Professor of Institute of Creative Industries Design of National Cheng Kung University.

Prof. Liou’s research areas are mainly on design thinking in social innovation, dynamic of mutual influences between culture and creativity, team and organization innovation in both R&D institutes and creative industries, and transdisciplinary collaboration in integrative research. He has published hundreds of papers and five books. In recent years, Prof. Liou has been committed to assisting government’s R&D institutes (such as ITRI, III, MIDRC, NBRP) to innovate foresight research, organizational design, and evaluation. Prof. Liou helps not only to create Orange Technology to promote human-oriented technology, but also assist national ministries (MOEA, MOC, MOE, MOST) as a consultant. Furthermore, Prof. Liou has been cooperating with MOHW to promote the system of designing smart and healthy cities and participating in the pro-motion of national social innovation. As for international cooperation, Prof. Liou has long-term cooperation with Germany, USA and Hong Kong in senior society and technology design, and has established the Center of Positive Social Science (CPOSS) with CUHK to promote the integration of technology, society and happiness. In TDRI, he leads national projects of design driven national innovation system advancing transdisciplinary collaboration among design, technology, and business. He now engages promoting the development of design research in the whole institute and at home and abroad joining the TDRI.
