Scientific Name 學名: Livistona chinensis
Chinese Fan-palm originated from Southern China, Vietnam and South Japan. In Hong Kong, it can be found in Victoria Peak. Chinese Fan-palm can withstand strong wind and cold weather. With its fan-shaped leaves, it is a commonly used as a landscape plant.

Chinese Fan-palm possesses a single rough trunk ringed with leaf scars. Leaves are fan-shaped and about 1-2m in diameter. Petiole can grow about 1-2m and with spines at the both sides of the basal part.
The different parts of Chinese Fan-palm can be used for different purposes. In ancient China, the trunk was used to make walking sticks and umbrella handles; while the fan-shaped leaves can be weaved into fans and hats. The high toughness of the fibre can even be used to make into ropes.
