Males are black and has a light green bill. Juveniles and females are greyish brown with white spots.

雄鳥黑色，咀淺綠色。幼鳥和雌鳥身體灰褐色而滿佈白斑。

Parasitises Black-collared Starling and likely Common Magpie, Blue Magpie and Masked Laughingthrush. Distinctive repetitive "ko-el" call heard both during the day and the night.

利用黑領椋鳥代為孵卵和育雛，亦有機會倚靠喜鵲、紅咀藍鵲和黑臉噪鶥。不分晝夜發出不停重複的「ko-el」聲。
