Promoting sustainability-conscious food consumption in official entertainment

PolyU has recently announced its position on Sustainability-conscious Food Consumption in Official Entertainment which encourages sustainability-conscious food consumption practices.

The University pledges to exclude food items which have aroused international and local concerns in official entertainment functions. Such food items are captured in ecologically unfriendly or unsustainable ways, or there are other conservation concerns. These food items include:

  • shark fin (魚翅);
  • bluefin tuna (藍鰭吞拿魚);
  • humphead wrasse (蘇眉);
  • Hong Kong grouper (紅斑) (wild caught specimen only 只限野生捕獲);
  • sturgeon caviar (鱘魚魚子醬);
  • black moss (黑苔 (即髮菜)); and
  • their related food items.

PolyU will take the lead by notifying event hosts in advance that attendees from the University will not consume the above-mentioned food items at their entertainment functions. At the same time, the University will apply relevant administrative and financial control measures to ensure that all offices will respect and follow such practice with their catering arrangements.
