I was the first to propose and develop the electronic structure interpretation strategy for electrocatalysis, which solves the difficulties of precise electronic structure analysis. This novel strategy has been widely applied in different catalyst materials for broad carbon-strategic applications including oxygen reduction reactions (ORR), oxygen evolution reactions (OER), hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), carbon dioxide reduction (CO2RR), nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR), etc. Our electronic structure interpretation has supplied significant references for scientists to reach an in-depth understanding of catalysis and benefit the optimisations of catalyst performances. Recently, we further extended our research to the rational design of novel atomic catalysts (ACs) based on the advanced firstprinciple machine learning strategy, which is able to effectively screen out promising electrocatalyst candidates towards different energy conversion and storage reactions.
