Aquaculture research Fish disease and the abuse of antibiotics are important problems for aquaculture. They can create food unsafe for human consumption, environmental contamination and increase antimicrobial resistance. My group is involved in research into the development and use of probiotics and nanomaterials in sustainable aquaculture to improve fish health and disease resilience. My research covers both laboratory mechanistic studies as well as field validation of efficacy. 2. Food and environmental toxicology Traditional toxicology is based on single-chemical studies. Increasing evidence suggests that some chemical mixtures can interact synergistically and result in higher than expected toxicity. My research focuses on investigating the toxicities of realistic mixtures in food and in aquatic environments.
