Welcome to the website on academic advising for students of the Broad Discipline of Engineering.

This website contains information for students to make informed and intelligent academic decisions/ choices about your study at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University!

Introduction

Academic advising at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) aims to help students to make informed and intelligent academic decisions/choices about their study at PolyU that suit their intellectual, professional and personal goals. It is instrumental to promoting student success, and plays a vital role in enhancing students’ overall learning experience at PolyU. The specific aims are:

The academic advising plan as described below would largely apply to Year One (Semester One and Two) of the Broad Discipline (BD) programme. Students admitted to the BD are strongly encouraged to select the Major no later than the end of Semester Two of Year One in order that they can choose subjects in the summer of Year One and beyond that are relevant to the selected Major. After choosing the Major, students will follow the academic advising system of the related Department.
For the very few students who would remain on the BD programme beyond end of Year One (Semester Two), they will be taken care by their academic advisor on an individual basis. Some group activities as mentioned in this plan may not apply.
