inner AAE

The Interdisciplinary Division of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering (AAE) was established in the Faculty of Engineering on 15 July 2016. Historically, the University has been engaging in academic research and offering undergraduate as well as postgraduate programmes with study streams related to aeronautical engineering. In recent years, the scope of undergraduate programmes and research extend to cover aviation engineering. The Division was established to lead the development of aeronautical and aviation engineering by amalgamating the expertise in the Faculty.

The Division is committed to train students with solid foundation and practical skills in aviation engineering to cope with the increasing demand of professionals in the aviation industry in Hong Kong and mainland China. It also provides a platform for multidisciplinary collaborations and academic research in aeronautical and aviation engineering.

The Division offers two unique interdisciplinary undergraduate degree programmes that cut across the boundaries of engineering and aviation business. The UGC-funded 2-year full-time top-up BEng (Hons) in Air Transport Engineering has been launches since 2014/15 for Higher Diploma or Associate Degree holders in an engineering related discipline. Since September 2016, the Division has also offered a UGC-funded full-time 4-year BEng (Hons) in Aviation Engineering for HKDSE students. These programmes not only impart in-depth academic and professional knowledge to students, but also sharpen their practical, analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills. The programme curricula are constantly updated to ensure students are well-prepared for the challenges of the fast-developing aviation industry. Graduates are trained to apply their professional knowledge to serve the aircraft services engineering, aviation information systems, aircraft component design and manufacture, airlines and airport operation, air transportation, and logistic industries.

The Division strives to play a leading role in bridging the development and innovation in aviation and aeronautical areas with the needs and applications of the aviation industry. The collaboration with the industries, together with the excellent facilities and expertise in the Division, enables the sustainable growth and competitiveness of our students and the industrial partners.
