Prof HC Man A38Y0928It is my great pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Blessed with a tradition of engineering excellence for over 80 years, the Faculty of Engineering with its constituent departments and division, namely Department of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Computing, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Electronic and Information Engineering, Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering and Interdisciplinary Division of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, have nurtured generations of engineers and technologists who have, over the years, played active and leading roles in the development and betterment of community locally, nationally and internationally. With a strong commitment in local engagement and emphasis in global outlook, our teaching and research activities aim to educate students who can flourish locally and internationally.

We offer an impressive portfolio of undergraduate programmes as well as taught and research postgraduate programmes. With valuable advice from our industrialists, professional engineers, entrepreneurs as well as local and international academics, we are able to continuously enhance our programme curricula, teaching methodologies and facilities so as to equip our students with confidence and updated knowledge, enabling them to apprehend and contribute to their professions efficiently and effectively.

Our colleagues are actively involved in research with projects covering a wide range of engineering sciences and applications. To name a few, the Lunar surface sample acquisition and sealing system prototype for Chang’e 5, surgical robot, Fibre Bragg Grating technology for railway monitoring system, high speed optical communication system, noise and vibration control to be used in the next generation of satellites, radiation-free scoliosis assessment system using ultrasound imaging and biometrics security authentication system. You will find a lot of exciting projects and achievements in our laboratories and research centres. Furthermore, we have solid experience in industrial collaboration and technology transfer to our industrial partners.

Today, our vibrant faculty consists of over 7,000 local and non-local students, and a pool of over 220 academics and 230 research personnel. You are most welcome to visit us.
