PolyU’s 80th anniversary was celebrated in a grand finale on 7 December 2017 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. About 2,000 guests turned out for the highly anticipated event, including university representatives, government officials, industry partners, alumni, and friends of PolyU. Mingling with the invited guests were more than 30 academic staff from the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE), led by Prof. Xiaoli Ding, Associate Dean (Partnership); Prof. Xiang-dong Li, Associate Dean (Research); as well as the 4 department heads, Prof. Albert Chan of the Department of Building and Real Estate, Prof. Asif Usmani of the Department of Building Services Engineering, Prof. William Lam of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and Prof. John Shi of the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics. The guest of honour for the evening was the Chief Executive of the HKSAR, The Hon Mrs Carrie Lam, who officiated a lighting ceremony with other VIPs before insightful speeches from Mr Tze-ching Chan, PolyU Council Chairman, and Prof. Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President.

The night was graced by the stellar performance of world-renowned pianist Mr Lang Lang, who was recently conferred PolyU University Fellowship, as well as the amazing live gig delivered by the President’s Band, which included special guests The Hon Michael Wong, Secretary for Development of the HKSAR; Prof. the Hon Sophia Chan, Secretary for Food and Health of the HKSAR; as well as PolyU University Fellows Dr Raymond Chan and Miss Cally Kwong. It was an occasion to remember for all.
