Welcome to the Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. We have a long tradition of providing higher education in various disciplines related to the construction field. Organized into four academic departments with the distinct themes of Building and Real Estate (BRE), Building Services Engineering (BSE), Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), and Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI), the Faculty has about 115 full-time academic staff whose expertise spans a range of areas in sustainable urban development, including construction, energy, environment, urban hazards mitigation, and smart cities. Our undergraduate programmes are highly relevant for students aspiring to careers in professions like construction management, building services engineering, civil engineering, environmental engineering, and land surveying etc. We also offer a variety of taught MSc/PgD programmes in addition to research-based PhD/MPhil programmes for those seeking professional advancement or a strong foundation on which to build an academic career. Moreover, FCE has led other Faculties and Schools of PolyU in the number of newly admitted research students being supported by the Hong Kong PhD Fellowships from 2017 to 2019.

In the latest Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2020, PolyU was ranked 91st, a jump of 15 spots from the previous year. Within Asia alone, PolyU was ranked 24th. In the QS World University Rankings by Subject for the same year, FCE was well represented with the discipline of Civil and Structural Engineering in 19th place, and Architecture/ Built Environment in 22nd place. With the financial support of major funding schemes of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, not only is our research internationally recognized, it is also making an impact in the communities that we serve. By addressing real-world problems, we hope our research will bring about concrete benefits for the city of Hong Kong and beyond.

With numerous state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories, including two branches of the Chinese National Engineering Research Centers established by the State Ministry of Science and Technology and a Joint Laboratory of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area for the Environment established by PolyU and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, we are well positioned to play a leading role in the field of construction and environment. I sincerely invite you to browse our website and learn more about our faculty, our teaching mission, our programmes, our research, and the opportunities we provide to Hong Kong, China and the world.
