Biography

Man Sing Wong received his M.Phil. and Ph.D. degree in Remote Sensing and GIS from the Department of Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, in 2005 and 2009, respectively. In 2006-2007, he was a Fulbright junior scholar with the Earth System Science Interdisciplinary Center, University of Maryland, College Park. He is the official site manager for the NASA’s AERONET station in Hong Kong. In 2014, he has received an Early Career Award from the Hong Kong Research Grants Council; three Faculty Award for Outstanding Performance/Achievement Award in Teaching (Team award) in 2014 and 2016; and Teaching (Individual award) in 2019, respectively; a Dean’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Research Funding in 2016; the 2nd Runner-up in the Most Favorite PolyU Research News in 2017; and Dean’s Award for Outstanding Achievement in Technology Transfer in 2020 in the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He has received international awards including International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (Geneva Inventions Expo) 2021, Gold medal; and 2021 Smart 50 Awards (50 recipients in the world, smartcitiesconnect.org). He has been working in various projects including the use of remote sensing to study urban heat island effect, urban environmental quality, landslides, vegetation and ecosystems, spectral mixture analysis, aerosol retrieval, air quality and dust storm monitoring. Prof. Wong has received more than HK$50 million external funding over the years and he has published about 120 SCI journal publications since 2005.
