Note: If a student cannot complete the MPhil study within the normal study duration, he/she will NOT be allowed to transit to the PhD study. However, he/she can complete the MPhil study within the maximum study duration.

^Students are allowed to take additional subjects in the MPhil study; and they are allowed to apply for transfer of credits which have not been used to contribute to the MPhil degree according to the prevailing University requirements.
*3-yr PhD students are allowed to transfer one credit from their previous studies in the ethics subject (HTI6081) and one credit from their previous attendance at seminars.
#Students who fail the Examination will not be allowed to transit to the PhD study.


Notes
  1. From 2023/24, students will be admitted to Direct-entry 3-year/4-year PhD programme depending on the students' education background. The 2+3 Integrated Programme will be discontinued but will be available as a transitional provision for the 2023/24 intake cohort only.
  2. Starting from the 2022/23 intake cohort, all research students are required to complete the e-Learning module on “Understanding China and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, P.R.C.” in English before thesis submission as a graduation requirement.
