3 INTRODUCTION On a mission to advance the frontiers of science and technology, the Faculty of Applied Science and Textiles (FAST) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has experienced and worked towards many thrilling developments over the past decade. In this latest edition of Research at FAST , we are proud to showcase our recent exciting projects, discoveries and achievements. Combining 4 academic departments, each unique in its own disciplines, we are delighted to introduce you to our latest research directions and our research’s regional and international impacts. FAST includes: • Department of Applied Biology and Chemical Technology (ABCT) • Department of Applied Mathematics (AMA) • Department of Applied Physics (AP) • Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC) Our brilliant research team is committed to conducting cutting-edge research, dedicated to engaging in innovative projects and focused on creating positive impacts. We display here profiles of our Faculty’s most invaluable assets – our research staff. You can find out more about their research activities and explore potential collaboration opportunities. Emphasis on application is always at the core of our research activities. In the past decade, our faculty has fostered a dynamic and interdisciplinary research culture, enabling us to create practical and impactful solutions. We are delighted to share some of our successful stories with you. Consistently supporting innovative, high-impact exploration and study, FAST has established pioneering research platforms including two State Key Laboratories and our multifunctional University Research Facilities. These and our other state-of- the-art facilities will be introduced in this publication. Led by our researchers in ABCT and ITC, two Research Institutes are also established in 2021 to facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration for impactful research within PolyU to address key societal challenges in areas of food science and human health as well as intelligent wearable systems. FAST looks forward to further building strategic connections with other academic entities and forging even more industrial partnerships to generate social, technological, and economic impact at both regional and global levels.
