The second symposium organized by the International Research Centre for the Advancement of Health Communication (IRCAHC) will build on the work that has been conducted since the inaugural symposium in 2018. We continue with our focus on expanding in health communication but extend our attention to issues that lie at the heart of healthcare across countries: communication, safety and quality of care. Thus this years’ symposium theme is Communication and Safety in Healthcare. In keeping with this theme there will be two keynote speakers whose work centres on ensuring effective communication and safety.

Our keynote speaker, Professor Phillip Della from Curtin University will present research conducted in Australia and Singapore that ensures effective delivery of care when a patient becomes unstable. Dr Fiona Geddes will complement this with a plenary talk on the tools developed by Professor Della and his research team. Our second keynote speaker is Professor Cheng from Sun Yat-sen University. The title of this keynote will be announced shortly. Finally we will hear about ongoing research that has developed out of the symposium held in 2018. All the topics focus on communication and healthcare and all link East with West.

Day two will feature a (paid) workshop for health professionals introducing strategies to increase resilience when working in an overstretched work environment. The workshop is appropriate for all health professionals (doctors, nurses and allied health professionals) and others working in the healthcare context. A certificate of attendance will be presented to all attendees. Numbers are limited for this workshop. The workshop will be hosted by Professor Phillip Della, Dr Fiona Geddes and Professor Bernadette Watson. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance.

Day one is free, lunch and refreshments will be provided. A fee of HK$100 applies for the Increasing Resilience Workshop on day two. Day one is free, lunch and refreshments will be provided. A fee of HK$100 applies for the Increasing Resilience Workshop on day two.
